<p>The amount of weight you want to lose and the time within which you would like to lose it should be decided beforehand. That is a terrible habit and it just makes you obese. Carry a small notebook with you and write down every snack, every drink, and the contents of every meal. There are also great websites that you can use to keep track of calories, get recipes, and help achieve your goal. It&#8217;s best to do this for at least a couple weekdays and a weekend; it&#8217;s even better if you can go a full week. Look up the calorie count on the internet for foods that don&#8217;t have calories listed on the container or for fast food meals. There is an idea that multiplying your ideal weight by ten will produce a rough estimate of the number of calories you need to eat per day to maintain your weight. Everyone has different metabolisms and there is no blanket rule that covers everyone&#8217;s recommended calorie intake. Go over the list and decide which foods to cut out or reduce. Look at the nutritional information for the foods you eat, pay special attention to your intake of saturated fats and empty calorie, high-sugar foods. You can simply reduce the amount of soda you drink or mayonnaise you put on your sandwiches, or you can substitute healthier choices. Low-fat and low-calorie options are also available for most foods, and many of these are natural, although some may contain chemicals , and tasty. Many people get a ton of calories from side dishes such as macaroni and cheese, French fries, or potato salad. You can eat healthier and lose weight by replacing these with fresh vegetables and salads. Pre-made salads are practically effortless, and when accompanied by a reduced-calorie dressing or no dressing at all, they&#8217;re weight-loss gold. A fattening breakfast of bacon and eggs or a pastry can be replaced with yogurt , oatmeal , high-fiber, low-sugar cereals; or fresh fruit for fruit smoothies. However, for those on a low carbohydrate diet bacon and eggs are a great combo for breakfast, since neither have carbs. But don&#8217;t fall into the trap of skipping breakfast.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Ever since I was a little girl, I&#8217;ve never had to work out to maintain my figure because of my fast metabolism despite how big of an appetite I have. Apparently, my metabolism is already slowing down and I&#8217;m starting to gain a lot of weight. Over the course of the past year and a half, I&#8217;ve gained at least 10lbs and went up one jean size. I&#8217;ve gained some &quot;pudge&quot; in the stomach area and my hips seem wider and my thighs have become a little rounder. I want to get back into shape and maintain a healthy weight. (my weight right now is NOT healthy; I&#8217;ve been eating fast-food almost every day for the past three-four months -__-) I want to start working out and obviously changing my diet, like running or doing sit-ups but I have no clue where to start; I have no idea how much I should run or how many sit-ups I should do every day or what kinds of foods I should eat&#8230; I&#8217;ve never really worked out before. I&#8217;m aiming to lose at least ten to fifteen pounds by my 18th birthday (July 2012). What can I do to get my flat tummy back, maintain it and shed those pounds?</p>
<p>A few facts:<br />
My freshman/sophomore year, I was 5&#8217;3&quot; and 110-112lbs. I am now a senior in high school and I weigh 125lbs, 5&#8217;3 1/2&quot;. Most of the weight I&#8217;ve gained is concentrated on my stomach, hips and thighs :/</p>
<p>*Also: A gym membership is not in my budget /: all I have is a treadmill<br />
<br />Restrict your diet to 1200-1500 Calories a day. Say goodbye to junk food on a daily basis. Cut down your sugar, sodium, and increase your protein. Start yourself off slow. For the first 3 days, time how much aerobic exercise you can do. You have a treadmill, use the timer&#8230; keep increasing the time as you go along. You should average 30-45 minutes every day.</p>
<p>Tip: To burn more calories on treadmill, move your arms and take wider steps to really feel the muscles stretch!</p>
<p>There is no such thing as &quot;spot&quot; weight loss. Doing crunches will not make you lose belly flab, running will not make your legs thinner, etc. You should start doing easy strength training exercises 2 or 3 times a week. Make sure to rest (a day or two) in between strength training exercises and do reps&#8230; 12 crunches at a time, rest for a moment, resume. For 30 minutes or how much you can handle each day. Your body will start getting used to these exercises so you might eventually need to add more weight to the resistance or work out longer. Crunches with any sort of weight, lunges, squats, and pushups are all ways to build your muscle without any real gym equipment.</p>
<p>In order to lose weight, having muscle will make it easier. Don&#8217;t worry about looking &quot;masculine&quot; because it doesn&#8217;t happen to girls who are just looking to &quot;tone&quot; You&#8217;d need to take protein supplements and do weightlifting for a very long time to even remotely look &quot;manly&quot;. Women don&#8217;t have as much testosterone as men, and it&#8217;s sometimes genetic too.</p>
<p>Tip: For better crunches, try using a 3 to 5lb weight to add resistance. Keep the weight in both hands behind your head and come up as much as you can. Adding resistance helps build muscle. You will see results in strength within days of starting. (No joke) The weight will come off slowly&#8230;. 1 or 2 pounds a week lost is a healthy pace. Make sure to be patient. The first two or three days are killer but it slowly becomes part of your daily routine and addicting!</p>
<p>As for diet:<br />
EAT BREAKFAST! Within 30 minutes of waking up, consume at least 200-300 calories. One egg, or cereal with juice, or other whole wheats are great.</p>
<p>Divide lunch into two small snack-ish meals&#8230;<br />
Skip the huge McDz meal and 3 hours after breakfast or so, have a salad or some fruits&#8230; then a little later have a bit more food. Anything is good really. Soup, some chicken, salad, fruits, veggies, whatever! </p>
<p>Dinner is at your discretion.. you need a minimum of 1300 calories, so&#8230; enjoy whatever you like. Don&#8217;t restrict yourself just because you want to lose weight, but don&#8217;t go crazy. You can have junkfood so long as you make up for it later.</p>
<p>Exercise is great around mid-day..or evening. 6 or 7 PM. Do aerobic every day for at least 30 minutes once you&#8217;re on track, which strength training twice a week for 30 minutes. You&#8217;ll feel amazing and being healthy alone is worth it. The weight comes off when you least expect it. I think you stop caring about losing it at a certain point and just focus on the high you get from running and exercising.</p>
